Southeast Calgary has been our home since 2004, when we began offering family resource centre services to the community. Before that, we operated along 17 Avenue SE as the “Good Neighbour” program—a storefront initiative focused on positive parenting and child development. That experience revealed just how many families in the area were benefiting from our support.

When the opportunity arose to acquire a former daycare facility on Erinwoods Drive, we embraced it wholeheartedly. The space was already welcoming and child-friendly, making it an ideal environment for parents and children alike. With many of our staff also living in the neighborhood, we felt the warmth of the Erinwoods community firsthand.

Our roots here run deep. Generations of families have participated in the regular and seasonal activities we host. Today, our online calendar keeps over 3,000 subscribers informed about daily, weekly, and seasonal events. “Parent Link” remains at the heart of many of these programs, always supported by our seniors and dedicated community stakeholders.

Since the day we opened our doors to families seeking support, one reality has stood out above all others: the growing challenges of housing security and the rising cost of daily life in Calgary. Through Native Network, we have been fortunate to attract partners and stakeholders who understand the importance of supporting the healthy development of children and families.

For more than 25 years, Métis Calgary Family Services Society has been developing an affordable housing strategy rooted in community needs. Integrating a family resource centre with affordable, accessible living has long been part of that vision. Today, that vision is becoming a reality through the alignment of two powerful forces:

  1. Our organization’s response to the increasing demand for safe, affordable housing, and
  2. The generosity and commitment of stakeholders and funders who believe in creating meaningful change for parents and their children.
